This past week, NFL players across the country took to the field in new, awareness-raising footwear. The climax of the league’s “My Cause, My Cleats” campaign, hundreds of players debuted their customized cleats to raise awareness for causes close their hearts.
The cleats, which many players designed in collaboration with Under Armour, Nike and adidas, tell personal stories to highlight the players’ causes of choice — anything from youth mentoring to bullying to clean water to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma — and are connected to a storytelling series on The Players’ Tribune.
Following the Week 13 personal cleats games, players can choose to auction off their cleats to benefit the causes.
“One of the great NFL traditions is how our players passionately support important causes in their communities and around the globe every year,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement. “They are incredibly creative by nature so we are not surprised how they are seizing the opportunity this week with inspiring expressions of their charitable commitments on their cleats, online and through social media.”
Teams and players are sharing the empowering shoes on social media with the #mycausemycleats hashtag. Check out some of these creative designs below.
