Portugal. The Man's 'Feel It Still' Is Still Feeling It From Advertisers

Coppertone keeps the track rolling on our weekly list of most Shazam'd spots

Portugal. The Man's infectious, '60s-flavored "Feel It Still" was indisputably the song of the summer last year. But even now, with the summer of 2018 not far off, the track refuses to fade away—thanks in part to advertisers who continue to find it irresistible.

Coppertone is the latest brand to fall for the giddy, Grammy-winning No. 1 hit. And like all the prior spots that have used it, the new commercial is being Shazam'd at an impressive clip, as viewers who aren't familiar with the track seek to learn more about it.

In fact, on our weekly list of the most Shazam'd songs from commercials, it comes in third this week—following Maren Morris, Zedd and Grey's "The Middle" (for Target) and Camila Cabello's "Never Be the Same" (for L'Oréal).

 

"Feel It Still" has been a favorite of advertisers for some time. And Portugal. The Man, suddenly sitting on a smash hit after a decade-plus of more moderate success, have been willing to license it broadly. It’s been featured in spots for Apple's iPad Pro, YouTube TV, Vitaminwater and Cadillac, as well as trailers and TV spots for the movie Peter Rabbit.

Lead singer John Gourley was particularly thrilled about the Vitaminwater execution, created by Ogilvy and starring Aaron Paul.

"That was crazy," Gourley told USA Today. "It could've just been a normal ad and we would've done it, but instead, we got this rad Aaron Paul vibing to the track. I go to the movie theater back home and it plays before the movie I'm watching. I feel like a little kid every time I hear it."

The other newcomer to this week's Shazam list is Billie Eilish & Khalid, whose track "Lovely" is being featured in TV spots for the second season of the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why.
