Entry Information

Clio Entertainment is the original and definitive celebration of creativity in the entertainment business. Originally established by The Hollywood Reporter in 1971, the awards program recognizes excellence in marketing and communications across film, television, home entertainment and gaming.

Entries in this medium include all types of video promotion. This includes, but is not limited to: spots, teasers, and trailers.

Spot: Entries in this category include targeted advertisements that are typically 15, 30 or 60 seconds in length and are played on television or digital media.

  • CGI Spot: Entries in this subcategory are typically less than 60 seconds and include originally produced computer-generated imagery.
  • Game Footage Spot: Entries in this subcategory are typically less than 60 seconds and include in-game or gameplay footage.
  • Live-Action Spot: Entries in this subcategory are typically less than 60 seconds and consist primarily of live-action footage. 

Teaser: Entries in this category are for promos that serve to “tease” the audience about an upcoming release. They may be presented on multiple platforms and are typically the first audio visual piece released in a marketing campaign.

  • CGI Teaser: Entries in this subcategory “tease” the audience about an upcoming release and include originally produced computer-generated imagery.
  • Game Footage Teaser: Entries in this subcategory “tease” the audience about an upcoming release and include in-game or gameplay footage 
  • Live-Action Teaser: Entries in this subcategory “tease” the audience about an upcoming release and consist primarily of live-action footage.

Trailer: Entries in this category are for promos that advertise to the audience about an upcoming release. They may be presented on multiple platforms are typically longer than spots and teasers. They generally focus on an aspect of the release like characters, plotline, etc. 

  • CGI Trailer: Entries in this subcategory are typically longer than 2 minutes and include originally produced computer-generated imagery.
  • Game Footage Trailer: Entries in this subcategory are typically longer than 2 minutes and include in-game or gameplay footage.
  • Live-Action Trailer: Entries in this subcategory are typically longer than 2 minutes and consist primarily of live-action footage.

Other: Entries in this category are for work not defined by any of the available categories. Entries in this category are also reviewed for potential new mediums and categories.

Student

Student entries are for creative marketing executions and campaigns produced by someone who is enrolled (full or part-time) in a recognized advertising or marketing trade school program or an accredited college or university during their enrollment.

A student is defined as someone who is enrolled in a recognized portfolio advertising or film school program, or in an accredited college or university. The work submitted by a student must have been produced during their enrollment, and within the period of January 1, 2024 – August 31, 2025 to be eligible in this year’s Clio Entertainment Awards.
