AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND // Derek Lockwood is the Worldwide Director of Design at Saatchi & Saatchi Design Worldwide – a role that entails developing and integrating design expertise into the heart of the agency.
Derek’s work sees him not only engaging with a variety of clients from all over the world, but also working within his agency group to help build the design expertise required to meet the growing demands of the business.
Derek has over 25 years experience working in advertising and design. A founding partner of the Campaign Palace in New Zealand and Design Director for the start-up innovation business Fahrenheit-212, now based in New York, Derek has been building design capability within the Saatchi group for the past eight years.
Derek sits on the Worldwide Creative Board at Saatchi & Saatchi, was on the inaugural design jury at the 2008 Cannes festive and has been involved in numerous successful and award winning projects from retail design, to branding, graphic design, book publishing, product design and business communication projects. He holds a number of board positions for both commercial and not-for profit-organisations.
Derek passionately believes that design should be informed by a sound strategic, insight-led idea; should generate scale and impact for the clients it represents and when integrated at the heart of strategy answer many of the communication challenges facing brands operating in a fragmented and complex media world.
Derek chooses to reside in New Zealand with his wife and two young daughters but travels extensively.
