Karl Lieberman

Karl Lieberman is the ECD and creative head of Wieden+Kennedy’s New York office. Working alongside Managing Director Neal Arthur, Karl is responsible for WKNY’s 12+ brands and its 200+ employees. After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1999 with a BFA degree, Karl made the mistake of pursuing a career in advertising. Since then, he has somehow managed to stay employed working as an art director, a copywriter, a CD and now an ECD. In 2006 Karl co-created “The Most Interesting Man in the World” for Dos Equis under ECD Jeff Kling with Brandon Henderson. The campaign ran for a decade and helped triple the brand’s business. In 2010 Karl penned and later creative-directed the P&G “Thank You, Mom” Olympics campaign that was named one of the most successful P&G Olympics marketing campaigns ever after winning an Emmy in 2012. And in 2015 – in hopes of connecting a struggling brand back to its roots – Karl helped bring back “The Colonel” for Kentucky Fried Chicken in a surprising and bizarre way that sparked a strong turnaround for the brand. Over the years, Karl has worked on clients that include Nike, Jordan Brand, ESPN, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bud Light, Old Spice, Delta, Sprite, Spotify, Target, Volvo and Facebook oftentimes finding himself working alongside cultural icons like LeBron James, Mark Zuckerberg, Howard Stern and the guy who does the voice-overs for those herpes ads. Karl was also once in Lance Armstrong’s kitchen. He had really nice countertops. Karl has been fortunate enough to have his work added to the permanent collection of MoMA through the AICP, he has been awarded Titanium, Gold, Silver and Bronze Cannes Lions and he has also received a handful of Effies for effectiveness. Karl prides himself on creative that gets into culture and resonates with the real world. The work he has helped create over the years has been referenced or covered in Saturday Night Live, The Onion, The Daily Show, The New York Times, Forbes, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and others. Karl lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife of 15 years and their two children.
