LONDON, UK // Bill started his career in the traditional way , a runner in commercials at the production company Spots, working on iconic spots like Nike’s ‘Good vs. Evil’ for director Tarsem, he worked out then that he wanted to be on the other side of production and in the cutting room.

Bill Smedley started editing in 1998 at the OBE Partnership; quickly working on high profile campaigns for Orange, Rover and Nike. In 2002 Bill moved to the Quarry where he established himself as a well respected Editor working on various award winning campaigns and for many acclaimed directors, such as Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, Paul Gay, Rupert Sanders, David Lodge, Steve Reeves and Joe Roman, on campaigns for Honda, Sony, Ford and M&S.

In 2006 Bill set up the editorial company ‘Work’. He is a Company Director/Owner alongside award winning editors Neil Smith and Rich Orrick and Executive Producer Jane Dilworth. Work has since grown with an office in New York that has been a great success on both sides of the Atlantic with Bill playing a major part.

Bill has had an extremely successful commercials career and an exclusive relationship with director Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, resulting in two multi award winning Honda campaigns and award winning Virgin Atlantic campaigns. One of which, Honda ‘Choir’ Bill received the BTAA craft award for editing and the D&AD Yellow Pencil also for Editing. He also won a Clio gold for Orange 'Hussars', and the BTAA craft award for editing the highly acclaimed online campaign for ‘The Havens’ for director Sara Dunlop. He has also had close collaborative relationships with many other awarding winning directors such as Peter Thwaites, Rupert Sanders and James Rouse with whom he cut the Grand Prix Craft Award Winner at Cannes 2014, Harvey Nichols ‘Sorry I spent it on Myself’.

Bill first got into long form projects in 2007, Bill edited two of the one hour ‘Whistleblower’ TV dramas for Director Paul Gay. These were on air in November ’07. Bill has since gone on to edit the feature film “Downhill’ for director James Rouse which is currently previewing around the UK. He then went on to cut film of the acclaimed novel “Kill Your Friends’ for director Owen Harris staring actor Nicholas Hoult. Bill’s latest long form project was the movie ‘Moonwalkers’ directed by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet.

He lives in Bedfordshire with his wife and three children.
