Gin Chen

NEW YORK, USA // Gin Chen is currently a creative director at Translation in Brooklyn. Born in Taiwan, raised in LA, she is the eldest daughter to immigrant parents. She’s been in advertising for over 13+ years and strongly believes that a well-told truth can awaken empathy, and a well-placed story can shift perception. That is what drew her to this industry. She prioritizes diversity in her work, from the stories that are told to the casting in front of the camera, and those that are capturing it from behind. Gin has worked with brands like AT&T, Diageo, L’Oreal, Oral-B, Disney, CVS, and Ally Bank.

Gin is also an instructor at the School of Visual Arts where she teaches branding in advertising to the next generation of creatives. She often tells her students what the power of advertising can do. “We’re not curing cancer, but our work can inspire people to take action to find the cure.” What we do can be the catalyst for societal change. In a cynical industry, she reminds us why advertising matters. She enjoys mentoring young creatives through the industry. For Gin, leading the next generation of creatives isn’t about making clones, it’s about empowering individual voices that aren’t always heard. When she reaches out, it’s not to handhold, but to hand over better opportunities to the next generation.
