CHICAGO, USA // Susan Betteridge is Chief Creative Officer and Partner at dame creative, a female-led advertising agency she helped found in early 2020. The agency has survived the pandemic, a name change, leadership changes and five years later, is now finding its groove landing new clients and winning awards.
Prior to starting dame, Susan led teams at Chicago’s largest ad agencies including FCB, Ogilvy and dentsu for 20 years including brands like Volkswagen, Disney, State Farm and more. Susan began her career as a Copywriter after graduating from Michigan State University’s Honors College and still finds the most joy when she’s crafting a story and bringing it through production. Susan has always been a documentarian, filming and photographing her friends and family throughout the best and the most banal things, those often becoming the most beautiful. To quote Emily Dickinson, “forever is composed of nows.”
Susan is active in the advertising community, especially mentoring young female creatives and has served in various roles with the American Advertising Federation, Chief a women’s leadership organization, and was named a Working Mother of the Year by She Runs It in 2019. Susan serves on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair at the Center on Halsted, the Midwest’s largest LGBTQ+ community center. Susan is also an angel investor with The Josephine Collective which co-funds underrepresented startups including women, people of color and those in the LGBTQ+ community. Susan is a proud working Mom and wife; she has two amazing daughters who are five and seven. Susan and her family love to travel, spending summers in Michigan and ski trips to the mountains each winter.
