Who was Marino Uriel? That question baffled fans when Atlético de Madrid announced a tribute to remember him. The confusion grew when reports were published highlighting his career, photos, videos, goal narrations, and newspaper clippings. Atletico legends like Adelardo and Bermejo recalled his personality, while famous Spanish journalists like Alfredo Relaño spoke about the so-called “Garrincha of Chamberí.” When searching for his name online, results appeared that reinforced his existence: Wikipedia, Transfermarkt, sports websites, fan blogs, and even trading cards and shirts on eBay. The confusion quickly spread. Thousands of users interacted on social media, wrote to the club, and organized searches to find information about Marino. There was enough content to prove that Marino was real, yet no one could remember him. The experience culminated in the tribute event to Marino Uriel, which was also streamed online. Every important media, former legends, current squad… everyone in Spanish football was at the tribute event, but at the key moment, the truth was revealed: Marino Uriel never existed. It had all been a campaign designed to make fans feel the disconnection and confusion that Alzheimer’s patients face every day when they can’t remember. The fans response was overwhelming. The wave of confusion turned into solidary support for the cause. Marino went beyond the experience and became something real. The club launched his official jersey to raise money for the fight against the disease, and thousands of fans sold it out in just a few hours. The shirt will also be displayed in the club's museum. So, despite never having existed, Marino became a symbol of the fight against Alzheimer's and he will always be in the hearts of all Atlético de Madrid fans.
