Diversity in Storytelling
“Twas the Night Before Spritemas” made Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry Gen Z’s drink of the season by reinventing a classic story through a culturally resonant lens. Gen Z stands at a crossroads between the traditions of their youth and a desire to define adulthood on their terms. This is especially felt during the holidays, where eggnog, ugly sweaters, and postcard-perfect nostalgia feel like rituals made for someone else. Sprite stepped into that space with a story and a symbol for a new kind of celebration.
Enter Anta Claus, NBA All-Star Anthony Edwards reimagined as a modern Santa who trades reindeer for wolfdeer and cruises the night sky in a drop top convertible, delivering Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry to parties ready to replace eggnog (“more like egg-nah”) with something refreshing. Rapper Monaleo narrated the hip-hop retelling of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, while artist Eso Tolson infused the visuals with bold, hand-drawn lettering rooted in contemporary Black art.
The campaign debuted in the cultural epicenter of Christmas Day NBA broadcasts, capturing millions of viewers, but the impact expanded through TikTok, social takeovers, and the GoPuff activation, which intercepted traditional holiday beverage purchases with surprise Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry deliveries.
In refreshing these traditions, Anta Claus transcended ad status to become a meme, a nickname, and a broadcast commentary reference that organically embedded itself into the culture. For Sprite, that meant record-breaking sales, a surge in brand affinity among Black Gen Zers, and a permanent seat at the holiday table.
