How do you make a number famous? For the Brooklyn Nets, celebrating Vince Carter’s jersey retirement was about more than raising a banner. It was about honoring a legend who defined flight, reuniting fans across generations, and creating a cultural moment that would live forever. Vince Carter’s career was built on hang time—those breathtaking moments when he seemed to float above the rim. To capture that spirit, the Nets designed Hang Time, Forever, a fully integrated campaign that transformed a halftime ceremony into a weekend-long celebration. The journey began with storytelling. A feature documentary, From Daytona Beach to Brooklyn, traced Carter’s path from Florida to NBA stardom, offering both a global release for fans and a personal keepsake for Vince and his family. The red-carpet premiere screening, held at Brooklyn’s iconic Paramount Theater, was free and open to the public to allow fans to get up close and personal with Vince. His idol, Julius Erving, narrated a tribute video that welcomed him into the “club” of retired Nets jerseys during the game. Celebrity messages, social collabs, and archival footage deepened the connection, making fans feel like they knew Vince better than ever. At Barclays Center, the game-day experience rivaled the energy of the playoffs. Pyrotechnics, custom lighting, and an epic dunk show paid homage to Carter’s high-flying career. Fans received exclusive bobbleheads and limited-edition Mitchell & Ness merchandise housed in a custom pop-up store curated with artifacts from Vince’s career, while activations like the “Hang Time Forever” photo booth let them capture their own gravity-defying moments. The celebration reached far beyond the arena. The Empire State Building lit up in Nets red, white, and blue, with Carter’s number 15 glowing over the New York skyline. Community activations included youth clinics and gym dedications, ensuring Vince’s impact extended to the next generation. Former teammates and Nets legends were welcomed back, reinforcing the idea that once you’re a Net, you’re always family. The results matched the scale of the tribute: 23.6 million impressions, 4.2 million video views, $118,000 in merchandise sales, and 4.23 billion earned media impressions. But the real success was emotional. Fans reconnected. Alumni felt celebrated. And Vince Carter’s place in Nets history was cemented forever. This was not just a jersey retirement. It was a story of legacy, community, and flight. It was Hang Time, Forever.
