CHALLENGE:
Today’s golf fans crave newer, tech-forward ways to enjoy the sport they love. As a partner of the PGA TOUR, Comcast Business wanted to enhance the experience for everyone on the course, including some of their biggest customers, by showcasing their tech capabilities in a new way.
IDEA:
We created Game the Green, a first-of-its-kind digital challenge at one of golf’s most iconic holes– the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. Fans predicted where the tee shots would land in real-time using data powered by Comcast Business.
To create the experience, Comcast Business engineers integrated topographic course modeling with real-time PGA TOUR data, like Doppler radar ball tracing and high-speed camera feeds. We installed sensors to collect hyper-localized weather data that provided up-to-the-second course conditions like wind speed, humidity, and temperature. We even used machine learning to develop an AI prediction model trained on 20 years of historical data to help fans predict where the next ball would land.
The game was live during the tournament so all the fans at TPC Sawgrass could play every tee shot at the 17th hole, allowing them to immerse themselves in the sport like never before. An in-game leaderboard kept it competitive, and players with the highest overall scores won epic prizes– including a trip to play TPC Sawgrass.
