LOS ANGELES, USA // Melissa Hwang, also known as Mel by her friends and colleagues, is a Freelance Editor who brings her trademark dedication and hard hitting editorial to every project she takes on.
Jumping head first into marketing as a Production Assistant at Royce Multimedia in 2010, she quickly moved up to directing travel shoots and live events. Unable to resist the itch to edit exclusively, in 2012 she joined the fast paced boot camp that is daytime promo as an Editor at Studio City. In 2016 she found an incredible team at Open Road, there she discovered her passion for trailer editing and creative collaboration. In 2023 she landed on Rogue Planet, tag teaming killer cuts with their stellar crew on campaigns like ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rebel Moon’. Most recently she’s taken the dive into freelance work and is delighted to hit the ground running with the lovely and exceptionally masterful team at Aspect.
Some of Mel’s career highlights include crafting the tribute to cinematography ‘Stories of Cinema’ installation displayed at the Academy Museum and winning a Clio for her work on Sophia Coppola’s ‘The Beguiled’.
Beyond the bay, Mel is a mother of two and actively participates in Soapbox Women, a group dedicated to empowering women in entertainment marketing. A mentor at heart, Mel loves to lend her enthusiasm and expertise to the next generation of editors.
