For 78 FIFA World Cup matches across the United States, Bank of America gave fans something they could take home that was more than a giveaway—it was proof they were there. At every Stadium Fan Experience, fans received two BofA Fan Bands™. The first was the tournament-themed BofA Fan Band™ featuring Bank of America’s Flagscape, the World Cup Trophy and all three tournament mascots for Mexico, Canada, and the USA. Then came the choice. Fans could select a second band from six themes: the host city, USA, Canada, Mexico or either team playing that day. That meant every fan left with a piece of the tournament, plus a collectible that could reflect their own fandom and the match they had come to experience. 936,000 pre-made bands were created specifically for the 78 U.S. matches. Distribution was capped at approximately 6,000 fans per game by FIFA, making each game-day allocation inherently limited. And there was no purchase or sign-up required. Fans simply waited in line to receive theirs. The bands quickly became something fans wanted to collect, not just something they were given. Fans returned to our experiences throughout the tournament carrying bands from previous matches. One superfan attended 34 World Cup games and collected a BofA Fan Band™ from every one. Across the full tournament, roughly 2M BofA Fan Bands™ were distributed, while social conversation was driven by Collectability, FOMO, Community and Customization. JOY was the dominant emotion in 92% of qualifying social posts. The result was a new kind of game-day premium: an item whose value came from the experience it represented. Because sometimes the best souvenir isn't something you buy. It's something that proves you were there.
