Theme Night
Pope Hat Night celebrated the world's most famous White Sox fan, Pope Leo XIV, by transforming a regular game into a one-of-a-kind ballpark experience inspired by a historic cultural moment. Originally planned as a limited ticket promotion, overwhelming demand and national media attention led the White Sox to expand the event into a ballpark-wide celebration. More than 40,000 fans received Pope hats, turning the stadium into a sea of white and creating one of the most memorable visuals in franchise history. The experience extended far beyond the giveaway. A live mural of Pope Leo XIV was painted during the game, Sister Mary Jo delivered the ceremonial first pitch, and Father Tom Hurley and comedian Pat McGann led a viral fifth-inning "Peace Be With You" moment that united the entire crowd. Together, these elements created a uniquely Chicago celebration that generated millions of impressions, widespread media coverage and one of the most talked-about theme nights in Major League Baseball.
