Emmy, Peabody, and Webby Award-winning actor, writer, and producer Keegan-Michael Key is known for his extraordinarily diverse skill set and wide-ranging talent in both comedy and drama. Key redefines what it means to be a multi-hyphenate in the worlds of film, television, and theater.
In 2023, Key starred in a number of projects including the Illumination and Nintendo smash hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Wonka opposite Timothee Chalamet, and the award-winning comedy series, Schmigadoon! for Apple TV+. His bestselling book, The History of Sketch Comedy, which he co-wrote along with Elle Key was also released last year. Additionally, he narrated the Audible podcast of The History of Sketch Comedy, which won the Webby Award for Best Writing in a Podcast.
Key hosted the NFL Honors in 2022 and 2024 to much acclaim. In television, he starred in the Netflix comedy series The Pentaverate, Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, and in Steve Levitan / Hulu’s Critics Choice nominated series, Reboot, for which he also received an individual ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series’ nomination. He also lent his voice to a number of animated projects including Henry Selick’s Critics Choice nominated film, Wendell & Wild, Disney +’s Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Disney +’s Pinocchio and Amazon Prime’s Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania.
Additional credits include a guest role in the hit sitcom Abbott Elementary, Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name, Paramount’s Playing with Fire, and Disney’s Toy Story 4 and The Lion King. Additionally, he hosted and Executive Produced both CBS’ Game On! and National Geographic’s Brain Games. He will next be seen on television as a guest star in the next season of Only Murders in the Building.
Key recently performed the voice for two major box office hits as Bumblebee in the Paramount animated sci-fi action film Transformers One and as Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He also recently starred in the Christmas comedy Dear Santa from the Farrelly Brothers, alongside Jack Black, and the Amazon MGM Studios’ crime thriller film, Play Dirty, with Mark Wahlberg. He’ll reprise his role as Toad in the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros sequel, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” out this March.
Key came to worldwide attention as co-creator and co-star, alongside Jordan Peele, of Comedy Central’s groundbreaking sketch series Key & Peele which won the 2016 Emmy® Award for ‘Outstanding Variety Sketch Series’.
