NEW YORK, USA // Kevin Carrigan serves as the Global Creative Director of Calvin Klein platinum label, Calvin Klein white label, Calvin Klein Jeans & Calvin Klein Underwear. In this role, Mr. Carrigan sets the unified seasonal design aesthetic, direction, and product designs including fabrics, and color palettes, for the multiple categories that he oversees.
Such categories include; global men's and women's Calvin Klein platinum label apparel, global men's and women's Calvin Klein Jeans apparel, North American Calvin Klein white label lines including men's and women's sportswear, suits, outerwear, golf, swim; men's tuxedos, tailored and dress shirts, ties, sportswear; women's dresses, suits, and performance; and boy's tailored clothing, boy's and girl's jeans, newborn, and layettes.
In his role, Mr. Carrigan collaborates with Calvin Klein Retail, and men's wholesale Calvin Klein to insure consistency of the design direction, as well as consults with licensees on men's, women's, and kid's Calvin Klein Underwear. Mr. Carrigan travels significantly to be on-hand for the presentation of the lines at press and consumer events around the world, as well as within the company’s boutique retail stores.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Carrigan’s design philosophy has been based upon the idea of modern clothes with an appreciation of form, function, and beauty evolving them to meet the needs of ones lifestyle. Mr. Carrigan has referred to his design philosophy and inspiration as a mood and or emotion which could be a word or pure thought, which transforms a two dimensional sketch into a three dimensional garment. He tends to focus upon designing pieces that are current and fit into the times, while creating a beautiful balance between designs that are functional and those that have an ability to inspire something harder to define. As he has stated, that he believes that to create, one has to question everything in life.
Mr. Carrigan is British and joined Calvin Klein, Inc., in 1998 as Design Director of the bridge apparel line. In 2002, he was promoted to Design Director for men’s and women’s, and from 2003 to 2009 he served as Creative Director of the bridge and better apparel labels. He honed his skills as a designer at Max Mara in Italy and Nicole Farhi in London. He has also designed costumes for the film “Death Becomes Her” and the play “Body Without a Head,” as well as the uniforms for Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Perry Street restaurant in New York City.
Mr. Carrigan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, and a Masters of Art degree in Fashion Design from The Royal College of Art and Design in London. Mr. Carrigan credits The Royal College of Arts for mirroring much of his personal fashion philosophy where he studied with industrial designers and architects which would prepare him for his role he would eventually take at Calvin Klein, Inc. He currently resides in New York City.
