LOS ANGELES, USA // Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Tom Malatesta moved to Los Angeles with a dream of working in the film industry. After working at a few smaller post-production shops, he joined the young and hungry team at AV Squad in 2011. Although he could barely piece together a :30 TV spot, Tom was captivated by the talent, camaraderie, ambition, and humility of AV Squad and knew he found his home. Learning from many of the industry’s best, Tom quickly forged his own style and voice, effortlessly expanding his creative toolkit and storytelling techniques to continually set new benchmarks in entertainment creative marketing.
Forming an instant bond with indie studio A24 in their earlier years, Tom helped shape successful marketing campaigns THE WITCH, HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR, IT COMES AT NIGHT, a partnership that continues today with their properties such as EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, TALK TO ME, and CIVIL WAR. His authentic love for horror genre titles has afforded him the opportunity to work with every major studio, earning multiple Clio and Golden Trailer awards, notably Grand Clios for HEREDITARY and KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON.
Fortunate to work with some of the best editors, producers, graphic designers, and music supervisors in the business, Tom is beyond proud of his time at AV Squad. Recently, he was honored to accept his new role as Partner & Co-Head of AV. Beyond the creative, day to day Tom enjoys mentoring young editors, building lifelong friendships, and welcomes the opportunity to help grow and run the company.
Tom lives in Culver City and enjoys time with his wife and two champion boys. He is Italian by blood.
