Brits are great at chit-chat but famously have a ‘stiff upper lip’ – 20 million Brits regularly feel stressed or depressed yet 45% never discuss their emotions. Frazzled, a mental health community for opening up, wanted to challenge the norm of keeping feelings hidden.
So we parodied the formulaic, meaningless small talk we all make every day. In our film, the characters speak generic descriptions of dialogue, such as 'Disinterested question about work?' and 'Fake laugh!'. This first-of-its-kind style leveraged British humour and awkwardness and coincided with World Mental Health Day’s 2024 theme ‘Mental Health at Work’. The film was a hit on social, getting 145,000 organic views and driving a 61% increase in Frazzled sign-ups to ‘swap the small talk for real talk’.
