Fanatics and Complex launched the Takashi Murakami x MLB Tokyo Series Collection on March 7, 2025, marking a unique collaboration between renowned Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Major League Baseball. This limited-edition release honored the 2025 MLB Tokyo Series Presented by Guggenheim, held March 18–19 at the Tokyo Dome, where the Chicago Cubs faced the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
The collection celebrated the deep cultural ties between baseball and Japan, featuring Murakami’s iconic colors and playful motifs. It offered a fresh artistic take on MLB merchandise, appealing to baseball fans, art collectors, and enthusiasts alike.
Murakami’s designs appeared across a range of exclusive items, including Nike MLB t-shirts, hoodies, and Limited jerseys for both teams. Individual player jerseys featured Murakami’s floral artwork and highlighted stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers, and Shota Imanaga, Seiya Suzuki, and Dansby Swanson of the Cubs.
Fanatics Collectibles, through its Topps brand, contributed a trading card set incorporating Murakami’s art. The set’s centerpiece was a one-of-one dual-autograph card of Murakami and Ohtani—one of the rarest and most coveted in MLB card history.
Beyond apparel, the collection included New Era 59FIFTYs, adjustable caps, Rawlings baseballs and gloves, Victus bats, keychains, totes, and more. Murakami’s brand, Ohana Hatake, introduced limited-edition slides featuring his signature flower motif alongside team logos, debuting on the Surippa Ohana silhouette.
The collection was sold exclusively on the Fanatics App and Complex.com, with select items available at the Tokyo Series games, Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, Clubhouse stores, and the MLB Flagship Store in NYC.
Additionally, the 2025 Topps x Murakami MLB Tokyo Series Matchup Set was released exclusively via Complex Shop. Each box included a 25-card complete set with Murakami artwork, a serial-numbered parallel (/199 or lower), and the chance to pull rare autographs.
Exclusive pop-up events in Los Angeles (March 7–9) and Tokyo (March 8–21) immersed fans in the collaboration through Murakami-inspired installations, historical MLB displays, and limited-edition product drops.
