For the first time in years, fans of the beloved sci-fi horror “Alien” films can experience the franchise in its entirety - from 1979’s “Alien” through to 2024’s “Alien: Romulus” - on a single streaming service. The arrival of these films on Hulu is not just great for die-hard fans but also for newcomers who may be curious about the franchise's legacy and impact. Hulu spread the word about the arrival of the franchise to the streaming service with a thrilling :30 promo that also effectively served as an homage to the iconic films, as well as a teaser for the upcoming "Alien Earth", the first series in the storied franchise. The Alien franchise stands alone as one of the most unique sci-fi entries into the early horror and thriller space, where the typical slasher maniac or cannibal is replaced by the unambiguous threat of an inhuman creature that cannot be bargained with, cannot be reasoned with, that must kill. The promo's pointed elevation of the tense, hair-raising terror and carefully thought-out highlighting of the alien threat makes it a prime entry for this category. Nearly fifty years of sci-fi horror later, Alien remains a singular gem, targeting themes of motherhood, human hubris, corporate greed, women of strength, military missteps, and prison capitalism, all through the lens of a killer-thriller. From the launching of a decades-long franchise to becoming a premiere source of references, parodies, and homages, the Alien series continues to live, grow, and appropriately, evolve. This promo not only lends a peek into the world of Alien but also makes bold steps to ensure that the promo itself evokes the same aesthetic values and tones of the source material. These efforts include the use of the famed soundscape which lends the image of dank, vaulted starship bays, haunted by an unseen presence, to the Hulu logo slowly appearing akin to the way that the original film’s logo did.
