To celebrate the return of ABC’s Emmy Award-winning comedy “Abbott Elementary” for season 3 - ABC went beyond traditional promotion with a nationwide activation that merged storytelling and social impact. The “Lunch Break with Abbott Elementary National Tour” transformed a street-legal lunchbox journeying over 12,000 miles across the U.S. to deliver joy, nourishment, and resources directly to the unsung heroes of public education.
Across the 5 stops, teachers there received gifts in the form of Abbott Elementary-themed swag items, such as t-shirts, lunchboxes, snacks, and classroom supplies – items which often teachers’ pay for out of their own pockets. The tour worked to provide back to public educators a little of what they have offered children for decades - care and appreciation - while advertising that “Abbott Elementary”, while humorous, is ultimately based on the incredible work of teachers. In total 10,000 meals and school supplies were delivered to teachers at underserved schools nationwide.
In partnership with DonorsChoose, “Abbott Elementary” also funded classroom projects along the tour route, focusing on supporting initiatives in STEM, Literacy & Language, DEI, and more. The tour also popped up at U.S. landmarks along the route, surprising and delighting tourists at each stop.
This campaign was more than a promotional stunt. The tour made a tangible impact on public educators, who are championed across “Abbott Elementary.” By delivering over 10,000 meals, funding classroom projects, and creating high-visibility pop-ups across U.S. Landmarks, ABC turned a humorous concept into heartfelt action, and uplifted teachers while spotlighting the show’s cultural relevance nationwide.
