For its 70th Anniversary of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, New York City Ballet commissioned illustrator Victoria Maxfield to rebrand this beloved holiday tradition. The production came to life through a series of large-format hand-painted portraits of some of its most iconic characters. Maxfield's work is a nod to the original tale's Victorian era.
