DoorDash’s “Basketball 2.0” campaign is a celebration of the power of partnerships in music and sports. Designed to honor the 40th anniversary of Kurtis Blow’s iconic anthem “Basketball,” the campaign reimagined the track for today’s audience, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge creativity to deliver a powerful message about the enduring connection between basketball and hip-hop.
The campaign brought together an all-star team of collaborators, including Kurtis Blow, rising rap star Lola Brooke, Grammy-winning producer Hit-Boy, and award-winning director Dave Meyers. This dynamic partnership resulted in a visually stunning music video that updated iconic scenes from the 1980s with vibrant NYC streetball courts, trick dunkers, and diverse representation, creating a fresh yet familiar tribute to the sport. By featuring WNBA legend Sue Bird alongside NBA stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, the campaign also highlighted the growing influence of women in sports, making it a true reflection of basketball’s future.
Leveraging DoorDash’s renewed partnership with the NBA and WNBA, the campaign strategically launched during the NBA season tip-off, ensuring maximum visibility and impact. With over 4 million views, 327 million impressions, and a substantial increase in DashPass subscriptions within the first week, “Basketball 2.0” proved that music-driven collaborations can resonate deeply with audiences while achieving measurable business outcomes.
