Escape Room is Teyana Taylor’s 36-minute visual album and immersive music film, produced by STURDY. alongside her production company, The Aunties. Co-Executive Produced by Paul Thomas Anderson and Missy Elliott, it features performances and monologues from Teyana Taylor, LaKeith Stanfield, Aaron Pierre, Niecy Nash, Taraji P. Henson, Issa Rae, and Kerry Washington. STURDY. translated and reworked the script to fit within a jam-packed three-day shoot, navigating a set filled with A-list talent and a production team of more than 200 crew members and talent. The first day of filming took place on the Fox Studios lot and featured stunts, pyro, choreography, SPFX, and more. STURDY. physically built the film’s universe through production design and wardrobe, while also overseeing choreography, styling, and technical execution. Paul Thomas Anderson was present on set, advising on lighting and camera alongside Teyana and the executive producers from behind the director’s monitors. Missy Elliott, meanwhile, provided high-level choreography guidance and watched the live filming remotely via stream. The result was a fully immersive audiovisual universe spanning the visual album and its music videos—Escape Room (Short Film), Escape Room (Official Trailer), Long Time (Music Video), and Bed of Roses (Music Video)—along with social trailers and teasers, with the 36 minute hero film exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Innovatively, the lyrics from Teyana’s album were used to drive the on-screen storytelling, rather than simply scoring the film, creating a more cohesive and balanced visual album experience. By fusing her audio-narrative soundscape with cinematic storytelling, the project immerses audiences in the story of love, heartbreak, escapement, and personal growth—bringing the energy and emotion of her music vividly to life. Escape Room has already achieved over 30 million video views across streaming and social platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. More than a visual album, Escape Room redefines fan engagement, transforming the album experience into a cultural and emotional journey that merges music, narrative, and cinematic artistry.
