“Suspended in Space” reimagines the typical ski film as a meditation on time, place, and human connection. Using cinematic storytelling, the film uniquely presents the Yukon Territory through the eyes of first-time visitors.
The story follows two female pro skiers as their unscripted, authentic reactions guide the narrative, allowing audiences to see the Yukon through fresh eyes. What begins as an energetic ski adventure evolves into a deeper exploration of scale, silence, and presence – ultimately revealing the land itself as the film’s protagonist.
Shot by a small crew working under extreme winter conditions, limitations became creative advantages. Filming was dictated by natural light and spontaneous moments. The visual palette drew inspiration from the Yukon’s elongated blue hours, leaning into icy and midnight tones that mirrored the landscape.
Sound design was equally vital. Candid conversations recorded in the field were distilled into a reflective narration, grounding the film in authenticity. Voices of the two skiers were layered with a rich soundscape of skis carving through powder, the panting of sled dogs, the hush of falling snow, and the crackle of fire. This natural world was elevated by an original score recorded in Berlin’s Funkhaus Cathedral, its resonance designed to match the grandeur of the Yukon itself.
The finished film blurs the line between branded content and art. “Suspended in Space” is a modern take on a ski film, using bold and emotional storytelling to present the Yukon Territory as an experience of wonder unlike any other.
