We gave the Women’s March Madness Tournament its first-ever anthem.
POWERADE is the official sports drink of March Madness –– the 68-team, single-elimination basketball tournament that grips the nation with massive viewership and a storied tradition.
For over 35 years, the men’s side has had an anthem: One Shining Moment. But the women’s tournament? No song. No sound. Nothing.
We changed that by teaming up with the face of women’s college basketball: LSU star and Roc Nation rapper Flau’jae Johnson. Through a groundbreaking NIL partnership, we created What It Takes – an original track and music video.
Written and performed by Flau’jae, an athlete who knows firsthand the hard work and determination it takes to succeed on and off the court, this partnership went beyond the transactional nature of most NIL deals. It was transformational — showcasing her full identity to the world and proving that the women’s game deserves an anthem as powerful as its players.
As part of our It Takes More campaign, each verse was a lesson in building something that lasts. The anthem wasn’t only for the players under the bright lights. It was also for every young girl watching from home, showing that greatness doesn’t happen overnight. It’s earned, one step, one shot, one verse at a time.
What It Takes powered POWERADE’s most successful March Madness campaign ever — generating 1.4B+ engagements and 27M plays.
And more importantly, we gave the women’s tournament a soundtrack. Its own voice. Its own anthem. Its own shining moment."
