How we hear sound shapes how we connect to the world and those around us. Our House is a song about the incredibly ordinary yet important moments of life. Our stripped back cover performed by a teenage girl perfectly embodies our film’s themes of support, connectivity, and accessibility as it relates to hearing health and hearing loss - meant to pull on everyone's HEARtstrings (get it?). As an additional layer to our story's authenticity, the on-screen dad, John, actually has hearing loss himself and his real-life children are all featured in the film. While going out to breakfast in Laurel Canyon, Joni Mitchell and Graham Nash swung by an antique shop to buy a vase Joni had her eye on. After escaping to her home on the cold and drizzly day, Nash exclaimed in a moment of serendipity the opening verse to the song he spent the next hour writing – “I’ll light the fire. You place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.” And though it took just slightly longer to make and with a whole lot more people, our Holiday film – much like Nash’s iconic song – came together with the same magical serendipity.
