The Guest was a score I truly loved writing. Those early conversations with our writer and exec producer Matthew Barry, often over long lunches, gave me a deep understanding of the emotional currents beneath the script. It felt like a genuine collaboration, and that trust allowed me to compose with confidence. Class and social mobility are key themes in the story, so I wanted Ria’s experience of Fran’s world to feel exotic and aspirational – this led to a more interesting and idiosyncratic sound world than is sometimes found in the thriller genre. I’m proud of how the score adds a subtle but meaningful layer to a show I believe is both sophisticated and quietly powerful.
