"World Heritage sites, including Gunkanjima in Japan, face a severe funding crisis.
Preserving these sites requires substantial financial resources, yet efforts still rely on donations and public funding, making sustainability difficult.
To address this, we transformed heritage preservation into a business.
By creating high-resolution 3D archive data and leveraging it as content, we generated a new revenue stream within the entertainment industry, turning heritage sites into sustainable financial assets.
We focused on Fortnite’s creator revenue-sharing system.
Using 3D archive data, we recreated Gunkanjima within Fortnite.
By redirecting revenue back into preservation, we established a system where the more users play, the more conservation progresses.
This approach successfully combined digital preservation and monetization, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem where engagement drives conservation.
Furthermore, archive data has expanded beyond gaming into film, digital experiences, and immersive content.
Now, this preservation model is scaling to other World Heritage sites."
