In 2025, the Canadian government launched the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB), offering just $200 a month—$6.67 a day—barely enough to eat on, let alone live on. With direct appeals to government likely to be ignored, we needed public pressure first.
We hijacked social media’s popular “What I Eat in a Day” format to launch The CDB Diet—a fake wellness movement challenging Canadians to live on $6.67 a day. Promoted through influencers, a dedicated website, and social channels, the idea sparked shock and outrage. The reveal reframed the conversation: this wasn’t a diet, but the lived reality of the CDB.
Over four weeks, the campaign generated 10.9M impressions, 81,661 website visits, and coverage across 18 news outlets, achieving a $0.008 cost per impression on an $85,000 budget. The campaign also broke into national politics, with the CDB referenced eight times on the floor of Parliament and MPs identifying an increase as a priority for the 2025/2026 federal budget.
