Ghana is on the verge of passing an anti-LGBTQIA+ bill. Anyone found guilty of homosexuality could face five years in prison and ten years if suspected of being an ally. Previdar, an online magazine that proudly celebrates queer and African identities, used its platform to speak for the voiceless. Collaborating with Lue and Rue, a queer South African influencer couple, we travelled to Ghana with one mission: to #ShowGhanaLove. We love-bombed the country’s most sacred and heavily monitored landmarks of freedom and independence. It was an act of love and a form of solidarity with queer Ghanaians whose voices have been silenced by fear of persecution. The posts went live during Pride Month on Instagram and TikTok and quickly went viral, with many people celebrating the couple’s brave act and their decision to show love for those who couldn’t.
