The Swedish Prescription is an integrated campaign that turned Sweden into the world’s first country available on prescription.
Created for Visit Sweden, the campaign set out to strengthen Sweden’s position as a travel destination by activating one central idea consistently across public relations, film, social media and out of home. Instead of competing with iconic landmarks, the campaign reframed the Swedish way of life as a credible response to modern stress and overload.
Inspired by a growing practice where doctors prescribe social, cultural and nature based activities, and developed together with Yvonne Forsell, senior professor at Karolinska Institutet, The Swedish Prescription structured everyday Swedish experiences into a formal prescription. Activities such as sauna, ice bathing, fika (a Swedish daily coffee ritual focusing on connection), calm cultural experiences, silence, natural light and restorative sleep were made accessible through a digital platform.
The hero film introduced the idea and established the tone using dry, understated Swedish humour. PR carried the story internationally, while social media translated the concept into short proof points that reinforced credibility and directed audiences to the platform.
Out of home was used selectively and with intent. In Times Square, the message contrasted one of the world’s most intense environments with a prescription for calm. In Düsseldorf, placements ran during a major international medical trade fair, placing the idea directly in a relevant professional context.
By activating one idea across multiple media types, The Swedish Prescription created a coherent, integrated experience that allowed Sweden to be understood not just as a destination, but as a way of life built around balance, recovery and wellbeing.
