In Canada, autumn means falling leaves, crisp air, and a return to comfort season. Traditionally, that comfort comes in the form of warm drinks and baked goods, leaving ice cream behind as summer fades.
Dairy Queen Canada decided to change that.
Instead of asking Canadians to rethink fall, the brand embraced what people already love about the season: exploring and photographing colorful maple leaves. With Falling Coupons, those leaves became the key to unlocking frozen treats.
Using a custom Snapchat Lens, Canadians could scan real fallen maple leaves to instantly receive a digital offer for an 85¢ Blizzard or a free shake. No posters, no printed coupons, and no installations were required. Nature itself became the promotion.
Because maple leaves appear everywhere during autumn, the experience turned parks, sidewalks, and neighbourhood walks into moments of discovery. A simple seasonal habit became a playful interaction that connected the outdoors to Dairy Queen locations nationwide.
The campaign transformed a familiar social behaviour into a rewarding experience, encouraging Canadians to enjoy frozen treats even as temperatures dropped. By turning the changing season into an opportunity rather than a limitation, Falling Coupons reimagined how brands can connect with people through culture, technology, and everyday moments.
The result was a nationwide experience that brought new meaning to comfort food and proved that sometimes the sweetest rewards are already right under your feet.
