The Period Uniform is the first school uniform to include period underwear. Developed with Colombian intimate care brand Somos Martina, the initiative addresses menstrual health by integrating period care into mandatory school uniforms. By using an existing system, it ensures access by design and makes menstrual protection part of everyday life. In Colombia, uniforms are a symbol of equality, yet they overlook the needs of girls during menstruation. Combined with stigma and lack of access, this often leads to absence and discomfort in school. The Period Uniform transforms this by making menstrual care a standard requirement. Schools add period underwear to their supply lists, allowing families to access it through familiar channels. Launched in 2026, the initiative is expanding across schools, supported by educators, NGOs, and policymakers. It contributes to increased attendance, is integrated into the school curriculum, and creates a scalable model for addressing menstrual health as a fundamental part of women’s well-being.
