Late-night scrolling keeps 72% of people awake, and in the UAE, bedtime phone use is the biggest barrier to quality sleep. IKEA decided to tackle this problem in a fun way by launching the Phone Sleep Collection: tiny, NFC-enabled beds for smartphones, connected to the IKEA app. When people tucked their phones in, they were rewarded for switching off and finally getting some rest.
Launched with the 7-Day Phone Sleep Challenge and led by top local influencers, participants were invited to put their phones to bed for seven hours each night over seven nights to unlock an IKEA voucher.
The results were extraordinary. The campaign went viral, reaching over 650 million people worldwide, generating more than USD 1.3 million in earned media value, and achieving a positive brand perception score of 83%. All limited-edition phone beds were claimed within three days, engagement exceeded IKEA’s benchmark by 130% with a 2.9% engagement rate, and participation in the challenge hit 100%, proving the brand inspired real, positive behavioral change.
Turns out the biggest bedtime problem really just needed the smallest bed.
