Verizon operates in a category where trust is broken by default. Telecom brands all claim to offer the best deal, while younger audiences have learned to expect the catch in the fine print. In a market full of promises, transparency is not something you say. It is something you have to prove. That tension led to our insight: Gen Z may ignore contract language, but they actively engage with lyrics. They replay them, quote them, decode them, and share them. So instead of asking people to read the fine print, we turned the fine print into the kind of text they actually pay attention to. Verizon partnered with Tyler, The Creator to turn competing telecom providers’ terms and conditions into an original diss track: The Contract. Tyler teased it as a new single and dropped it with no explanation, letting social media do the rest. Fans reacted, reposted, and debated bars about hidden fees, data limits, and termination penalties before Verizon revealed the twist: every line had been adapted from real competitor contracts. What people usually ignore in footnotes became creator-led content they could not stop replaying. The idea then expanded into social content with Tyler turning absurd clauses from other kinds of contracts into short-form diss-track videos, and into an AI-powered tool that transforms any contract into a diss track, exposing hidden clauses and off-key offers in a language people actually want to engage with. By turning legal copy into culture, Verizon made transparency impossible to scroll past.
