“Having insurance isn’t the same as having State Farm” was designed to demonstrate to consumers – specifically millennials and Gen Z – that having the right team matters when it comes to insurance. Rather than relying on traditional insurance advertising, the campaign fused entertainment content and sports humor to deliver a values message -proving State Farm “is not the same” - while generating broadcast-friendly, ongoing content moments throughout the 2025–26 season. Often, insurance is marketed on price alone, so State Farm wanted to show that close enough isn’t good enough when it matters most—on the field and with coverage. The campaign featured a branded entertainment system that traveled like a running joke and a recurring thesis. It started with “Batman vs. Bateman” when it aired on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and during March Madness in-game broadcasts to dramatize how “almost” isn’t the same. The metaphor then turned into a season-long drumbeat throughout the NFL season, pairing NFL stars like Patrick Mahomes and Derrick Henry with unexpected partners to make the point memorable, surprising, and funny—because entertainment earns attention. Each execution reinforced that having insurance isn’t the same as having State Farm. At the Big Game, State Farm extended the story with Halfway There Insurance—a comedic “what settling looks like” contrast featuring Danny McBride and Keegan-Michael Key, distributed across broadcast television and digital platforms, designed to keep the universe alive beyond a single spot. The result was a campaign that entertained first, then changed how audiences viewed the brand.
