Since 1990, “Law & Order” has served as the definitive procedural crime drama franchise in primetime television history. Its legacy is etched in the cultural lexicon, and its iconic 'DUN DUN' sound effect is instantly recognizable around the world.
But celebrating the 25th season of a TV series built on heinous crimes presents a unique experiential challenge: how do you invite superfans into the “Law & Order” universe in a way that feels safe, joyful, and familiar?
Our solution bypassed the show’s dark storylines entirely, instead tapping into the “Law & Order” universe’s legacy as a fixture of New York City’s cultural landscape and the familiar comfort audiences have found within the rhythm of each episode to create the Dun Dun Diner.
For three days, we transformed a Rockefeller Center restaurant into a classic NYC diner. Modeled after the quintessential NYC hangout for hard-working detectives, where hard-working detectives and everyday citizens rub shoulders, the limited-run pop-up treated press, influencers, and fans like members of the Elite Squad.
Inside Dun Dun Diner, the “Law & Order” universe came alive at every turn. Upon entering, guests explored a space packed with authentic memorabilia, character costumes, and iconic props that called back to “Law & Order”’s heroes, guest stars, and decades worth of cases, leads, and clues. Meticulously detailed photo moments – from a gallery wall honoring the franchise's history to a glowing "What Would Olivia Benson Do?" neon sign– invited fans to document their case before snagging limited-edition squad merchandise and indulging in diner-favorite dishes.
Lucky fans who were at Dun Dun Diner at the right time got a surprise visit from Olivia Benson, a.k.a. “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay.
To extend the narrative nationally, we engineered high-integrity partnerships with iconic NYC bakery Milk Bar and cult streetwear brand Dinner Service NY that elevated the intellectual property into a multi-channel lifestyle brand.
