Ausify Your Algo is a national intervention designed to subvert the algorithms shaping culture. Less than 8% of the music Aussies stream is Australian, as algorithms favour scale from larger markets like the US. This means local culture is quietly disappearing from our own backyard.
Rather than fighting the algorithm from the outside, we weaponised it from within. Calling on Australians to #Ausify their algorithms, we spot-lit the A–Z of Aussie music a letter a day for an entire month and encouraged people to search, stream and share their discoveries on-platform, retraining the system through collective action.
The campaign tapped into a deeply Australian instinct to back the underdog and resist rigged systems. By naming the algorithm as the problem and shortening it to “algo”, a familiar Aussie abbreviation, the campaign made an invisible system feel local and beatable.
Searching and streaming Australian music became an act of cultural defence.
Artists embraced Ausify organically, using it on social and on stage to urge fans to act. We even saw artists on stage at ARIA, Australia's version of Grammys, urging viewers to "Ausify Your Algos".
The phrase entered the national conversation during AusMusic Month and extended beyond it, becoming shorthand for resisting cultural homogenisation. With algorithms being a hot topic, media picked up the campaign, with the conversation turning to protecting local cultural sovereignty. Ausify shifted perception from helplessness to agency, showing Australians they could influence the systems shaping culture.
