Disney's "Once a Princess, Always a Princess" follows two young girls in neighboring apartment towers who build an imaginative world together during play, showing how Disney Princesses give kids a shared language to connect and form lifelong friendships.
The project was shot like a feature film instead of an ad, anchoring every visual decision on screen to physical, handmade craft and classic stagecraft. Master artisans hand-built "bigature" castles to create forced perspective in-camera, and artists hand-painted physical backdrops using old-school Disney matte painting techniques. Bringing characters like Flounder, Sebastian, and Lumiere to life required a massive crew operating custom-built mechanical puppets in real time, alongside "dry-for-wet" set pieces and rigging for underwater scenes. Every bespoke gown was stitched from scratch by master costumers led by Vin Burnham, paired with a custom score recorded live to picture by a 56-piece orchestra.
Thea Evans and Ivy Jukes, the film's two leads, are pen pals and best friends off-screen too. Their chemistry, and a commitment to hand-built movie magic, gave the film a rare authenticity that audiences and fans felt instantly.
