In the lead up to the finale of the hit show "Stranger Things", Doritos transformed a traditional brand partnership into an immersive fan experience by treating the disaster-stricken fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, as if it were real. The Doritos Telethon for Hawkins—a fully realized 1980s telethon—invited devoted fans to "Chip In!" with bold messages of support for the town they grew to love. The 1-855-4-HAWKINS hotline experience—complete with accurately de-aged 80s icons like ALF and David Hasselhoff—turned fan messages into creative content appearing across film, social, phone booths, and OOH coast to coast, making fans part of the story itself. The campaign generated over 400,000 phone calls, transforming nostalgic culture into Doritos’ top-selling limited-time offering of the year and driving a massive 143% surge past sales forecasts.
