Most behind-the-scenes films show how a series was made. Creator Diaries shows how it was imagined. When Netflix asked us to go beyond the traditional making-of for BEEF Season 2, we created a six-part series that applies the show’s own cinematic ambition to the story behind it. At its centre is creator, writer, director and showrunner Lee Sung Jin—known as Sonny. Rather than place him and his collaborators in formal interviews, we built each episode around carefully staged but honest conversations. Together, they unpack the instincts, doubts and creative decisions behind Monte Vista Point Country Club: its immaculate surfaces, invisible hierarchies and resentment waiting just underneath. Across the series, the world of BEEF is gradually dismantled and rebuilt by the people who made it. Each conversation reveals how individual creative disciplines collided, overlapped and ultimately became inseparable on screen. We wanted Creator Diaries to feel every bit as cinematic, truthful and watchable as the show it explores. The conversations were shot on anamorphic lenses, with locations dressed and lit for drama rather than documentation. In the edit, we developed an energetic visual language that gave each episode its own rhythm and personality. The result doesn’t simply explain the craft of BEEF. It lets audiences sit inside the creative process while it still feels alive.
