Obsession is a film about wanting the wrong thing, and about missing what is in front of you while you chase it. The One Wish Willow is the device that drags Bear's worst impulses into the open and makes him live inside them. When he understands what he has done, he does not undo the wish. He refines it.
So we put the willow in the audience's hands and asked them the same question.
onewishwillow.com opened as a real storefront for a fictional product: $6.99, limit three per customer, shipped with a certificate of authenticity and a disclaimer confirming the item is 100% magical and 0% real. The site came wrapped in a faux-infomercial world, complete with a customer service hotline where callers reached a series of pointedly unhelpful voicemails recorded by the film's director.
Roughly 5,000 One Wish Willows sold across two drops. Each sold out in twelve hours. A resale market appeared within days and is still running months later, where a $6.99 stick now changes hands at a median of $150, with one selling for $599.99. The real Burbank shop featured in the film reported business tripling.
A companion site, iloveyousososomuch.com, let fans place themselves inside the film's shrine and share the result.
The film opened at $17.2M against $8M to $10M tracking, and has since passed $488M worldwide.
