Steps from the San Diego Convention Center, we transformed an existing Gaslamp Quarter storefront into a complete Victorian-era building, built exclusively to support Johnny Depp's in-character appearance as Ebenezer Scrooge. We removed the original windows, doors, and awning to construct a full in-world facade rather than a temporary overlay, giving us a structure sturdy enough to support a multi-day live set activation and visible enough to capture the dense foot traffic passing between convention halls. But that’s not all, we also fully built the inside of the office as a true replica of the one from the film complete with era-specific usable props. In an area with that much passing traffic, the build itself needed to feel alive, so we layered in a full soundscape, animatronic details including a moving door knocker, haunted shutters, and a perched animated crow, and falling snow effects that extended the world beyond the facade itself. A supernatural clock reset every 30 minutes to trigger new moments throughout the day, and after dark the storefront transformed again, with fog, flickering candlelight, illuminated ice details, and a Pepper's Ghost illusion giving the house a genuinely haunted presence at night. Inside, a richly detailed set built around Scrooge's desk and fireplace, using props sourced directly from the film, gave the exterior spectacle a lived-in interior to match.
