The “QT Home Bun” was born from a straightforward ask from QuikTrip as the 2026 baseball season approached. QT wanted to get more out of their sports sponsorships beyond wall signage, typical scoreboard messaging in both Kansas City and St. Louis, as well as a patch sponsorship with the Royals.
Most stadium giveaways are either offering items to singular fans or to the home team for winning the game. We thought, what if we flipped that? Why not let the whole stadium win, regardless of who they’re rooting for?
With this as the backdrop, we set out to find the overlap between iconic food favorites at QuikTrip and the joy of a day at the ballpark. That overlapping space? The hot dog, of course. We created something never before seen in MLB history; an oversized, nearly 10-foot-long QuikTrip branded inflatable hot dog and an equally large, branded inflatable bun. With the challenge to fans being, if they could get the hot dog, placed at one end of the stadium, to match up with the bun, placed on the other side of the stadium in 30 seconds, a QR code would appear on the scoreboard and everyone who scanned would win a QT hot dog.
We knew this would be a fun experience for fans in the stands but we wanted to bring the joy of the hot dog assembly to those at home too. We reached out to specific local influencers to watch for the Home Bun challenge during the game and film it for their followers. These videos were immediately commented on, shared, reposted and retweeted. And of course, we knew visiting team broadcasters would get in on the fun as well during the telecasts.
What quickly became clear is that culturally, now more than ever, people are eager to come together and celebrate a shared purpose. Turns out, that shared purpose is assembling a giant hot dog.
