Sunny is back! The 17th season returns with more depraved schemes, half-baked arguments, and absurdly underhanded plots to subvert one another. In addition to the classic antics, this season brought new unprecedented cross-over events, with the gang invading the halls of Abbott Elementary, and Frank’s raunchy and hilarious feature on The Golden Bachelor. The motion design team was inspired by the genre-bending approach the series took this season and wanted to create a package that followed suit. We started with the classic style of the mid-century background illustrations, referencing artists like Maurice Noble, and infused it with the Sunny palette, attitude, and grunge we’ve come to recognize. Hand-drawn illustrations in tilted single-point perspective were projected on 3d geometry to put a modern technical spin on a classic art style. We then integrated hand-animated animals, characters, and typography—seamlessly blending 2D and 3D animation styles into a unified visual package.
