Paris is home to 300,000 dogs, squeezed into small apartments, navigating narrow sidewalks, and largely banned from public parks. Despite having the highest dog density per km² in the world, the city offers them the least space to thrive, leading to widespread obesity. In fact, 40% of dogs in Paris are overweight. Generali’s Urban Doggy Fit campaign tackled this cultural contradiction head-on: the French adore their dogs, yet cities make little room for them. Dogs are banned from regular parks, so the street is the only environment where they can get exercise. Instead of highlighting the problem as a marketing gimmick, Generali offered a real solution—transforming everyday street furniture like benches, streetlights, steps, poles, and ramps into dog-friendly workout zones. By scanning QR-coded stickers placed on these structures, pet owners could access vet-approved exercises instantly, turning their walks into smarter, healthier walks. Launched in Paris, where the problem is most visible, the campaign quickly expanded to 19 other densely populated cities, including Lyon, Marseille, and Toulouse. It turned daily dog walks from a challenge into a wellness experience, helping pets stay fit, reconnecting people to the brand. More than a campaign, Urban Doggy Fit turned prevention into public infrastructure: a simple, local solution to a nationwide issue, rooted in the way French people and their dogs actually live.
