In 1980, Terry Fox set out on an extraordinary run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Though his Marathon of Hope ended when his cancer returned, his belief in a world without cancer never did.
'Finish It' brings Terry’s unfinished mission into the present through a short cinematic film that bridges past and future in just a few minutes. Rather than retelling Terry’s story as history, the film invites audiences to experience his determination as something still in motion.
At the center of the film is a continuous, intimate portrayal of Terry Fox — respectfully brought to life through a combination of archival reference, modern filmmaking, and the physical performance of a real amputee athlete. The result is not a monument or reenactment, but a human presence defined by effort, breath, and resolve.
The emotional core of the film is a stripped-back re-imagining of Courage by The Tragically Hip, featuring the unmistakable voice of Gord Downie. Reduced to voice and piano, the song transforms a familiar anthem into something deeply personal, uniting two Canadian icons lost to cancer in a single moment of purpose.
Within its 2-minute runtime, the film reframes Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope not as something that ended decades ago, but as a journey still underway — one that invites everyone to Finish It.
