The Hidden Eye Test is the physical expression of a strategic shift from driving action with awareness to drive action with self-awareness.
Australians delay eye tests not because they don’t understand their importance, but because they don’t believe a problem applies to them. Traditional optical advertising falls short because they ask a consumer to take a leap of faith; to book in for an eye test to maybe find they have a problem. This campaign reversed that logic.
The campaign turned static billboards into interactive self-diagnosis tools. Those with good eyesight saw they needed fashionable eyewear to keep their eyes healthy, while those with bad eyesight saw what they needed more: an eye test, eye scan or eyecare. Both of which you can get at 1001 Optometry.
By embedding the moment of discovery into everyday public environments, the strategy removed the need for motivation, reminders, or offers. The work confronted people with evidence of their needs before they ever stepped into a store.
This turned eye care from something Australians habitually delayed into something they experienced unexpectedly. Once belief was established, action followed. The executions demonstrate how the strategy lived inside the creative itself, transforming Out of Home from a channel for messaging into a trigger for behaviour change.
